D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Friday the winners of 12 projects chosen by the city to provide more than 800 units of affordable housing for more than 1,700 residents.
The projects represent nearly $82.2 million in public funding, reinforcing the mayor’s commitment to devote $100 million to the Housing Production Trust Fund in her annual budgets.
“Washingtonians in all eight wards should have access to quality affordable housing,” Bowser said. “My administration is committed to producing, preserving and protecting affordable housing across the city. First, we put our money where our mouth is by making historic investments in the Housing Production Trust Fund. And with these 12 projects, we are putting those dollars to work. We will continue to build D.C.’s affordable housing supply and create more pathways to the middle class for our residents.”
In her first budget a year ago, Bowser committed an historic $100 million for the housing fund. The new housing, which are also reflective of the mayor’s drive to end homelessness in the District by 2020, include the preservation of 466 units and the production of 338 new units.
