D.C. has $606 million of your money in unclaimed funds. Its website doesn’t make it easy to claim it. It shows unclaimed funds under or over $50 but you can’t see the actual dollar amount.
Currently, the D.C. Unclaimed Property Division is holding 127,027 claims under $50 totaling $1,368,347.
We found 7News has two claims from Verizon for over $50 but 7News can’t see the exact amount. Ron Lizzi, a national expert on unclaimed funds, said that’s a big problem.
“Showing the exact value not only helps the owner to know if it’s worth the trouble to put in a claim it helps to return more money because it encourages people to look for friends, family, or organizations they care about and inform them of any significant amounts of money they find,” said Lizzi.
