The District will get an additional $17.7 million in federal rental assistance funding as part of a redistribution of money that wasn’t used by other states.
The Treasury Department announced the reallocated funds Friday, including the funding for D.C., $50.3 million for California, $40.8 million for New Jersey and $27.2 million for New York, as Politico first reported.
The District had distributed $155 million in the federal rental assistance funding through its “Stay D.C.” program, and had another $105 million in the application process, as of October, according to a DCist/WAMU report. That was part of a larger pool of $352 million in rent and utility assistance funding the District received from the federal government.
The city initially struggled to disburse the rental assistance, though the pace picked up significantly in the fall as an eviction moratorium deadline loomed.
