The cast of Greater Washington executives on Forbes’ annual list of the world’s billionaires is largely the same from last year — but there’s been some notable movement. Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) founder and Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos lost his No. 1 spot. The owner of The Washington Post and the largest home in the District came in at No. 2 with a net worth of $171 billion, placing him behind Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and SpaceX mogul Elon Musk’s $219 billion.
Bezos’ net worth has dipped a little from 2021, when Forbes pegged him at $177 billion thanks to the colossal success of Amazon, which is building out its massive second headquarters in Arlington. Musk’s net worth, meanwhile, has climbed from $151 billion a year ago.
Washington Nationals owner and real estate magnate Ted Lerner and his family came in at No. 637 on the list with a net worth of $4.5 billion. That’s down from ranking at No. 589 with a net worth of $4.8 billion a year ago.
Embattled Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder made a big climb on the list. His net worth jumped to $4 billion from $2.6 billion a year ago, moving him 477 spots to No. 728 on the list. He solidified his family’s ownership of the NFL franchise in the last year, buying out the combined 40% stake of three minority owners for $875 million.
