One of Greater Washington’s largest private companies appears to be moving its headquarters.
Stonebridge Associates and Rockwood Capital have begun marketing a 120,000-square-foot vacancy at their 16-story office building at 7500 Old Georgetown Road, as well as an opportunity for nameplate signage for a major tenant starting in fall 2022. Commonly known locally as the Clark Building, it has long been home to Clark Enterprises and Clark Construction, and the Clark Cos. logo has been on the nameplate at the top of the building for years.
Clark Enterprises sold the building to Stonebridge and Rockwood for $133.75 million in 2019, and the new owners are now simply referring to it by its address, seeming to signal the departure of the building’s largest tenant. The 120,000-square-foot vacancy represents more than a third of the 338,844-square-foot building.
Stonebridge declined to comment, as did Clark Construction, Greater Washington’s largest general contractor, which saw $5.79 billion in revenue last year, including $2.14 billion in Greater Washington — stats that also make it the region’s fourth-largest private company, according to Washington Business Journal research. The construction firm, which Clark Enterprises sold to a team of longtime Clark Construction executives in 2016, has 2,400 employees in the region and 4,700 around the country.
