Authorities locked down the Maryland State House in Annapolis late Thursday afternoon, instructing occupants to shelter in place.
Police told 11 News that a threatening call was made, which prompted armed officers to enter the building around 5 p.m. with guns drawn, and some people were evacuated. The incident appeared to stem from the ground floor.
Video from SkyTeam 11, Baltimore’s only news helicopter, showed numerous police and emergency vehicles surrounding the State House complex. Every entrance around State Circle was blocked by police cars.
The governor’s office released a statement, saying: “The Maryland State House is currently under lockdown for a security threat. No other information is available at this time.
“Staff members, personnel and community members on grounds should shelter in place and listen to directions from any available member of capitol police or law enforcement.”
