Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott has formed a new office to manage the massive $640 million in federal relief funds the city is expected to receive as part of the American Rescue Plan Act.
The Mayor’s Office of Recovery Programs will be responsible for all aspects of ARP funding, including determining how the funds are spent, and regularly reporting to the federal government and the public, according to a release from the Mayor’s office Thursday. It will be headed up by a three-person leadership team selected by Scott, and eventually total 10 employees.
The office will officially begin its work on July 12. Funding for the office was included in the city’s fiscal year 2022 budget. The city has said it will spend $10 million of the ARPA funds to operate the office through 2025.
