A Circuit Court judge has granted a request to prevent Anne Arundel Medical Center from opening its new cardiac surgery program until the state health care commission’s decision undergoes a judicial review.
In her two-and-a-third-page written ruling, Prince George’s County Circuit Court Judge Beverly Woodward wrote she understands the gravity of the situation and what her ruling would mean for AAMC as well as Prince George’s Hospital Center and Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
“As the Court indicated before the hearing began, this is an important decision at an important time,” Woodward wrote. “AAMC wants to provide cardiac services to its residents and those in the Upper Baltimore Region. Dimensions Health, as well, has begun an ambitious, much needed project to serve the health needs of the citizens Prince George’s County. Both are admirable goals.”
Dimensions, BWMC ask judge to prevent AAMC from opening cardiac surgery program until judicial review
Lawyers for Dimensions, the parent company of Prince George’s Hospital Center, and BWMC requested Woodard rule for a stay of proceedings Tuesday, citing, among many reasons, that the hospital’s “fragile” cardiac surgery program will face “irreparable harm.”
