Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) has reached a deal to open a new supermarket at a long-planned Silver Spring redevelopment fewer than three miles from the Food and Drug Administration’s campus, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The team behind the White Oak Town Center has swapped a 41,000-square-foot Amazon-branded market, likely an Amazon Fresh, in for what had been a roughly 16,000-square-foot Trader Joe’s, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation but not authorized to comment on the record. The mixed-use development is located at the northeast corner of Prosperity Drive and Industrial Parkway, with a street address of 12345 Columbia Pike in Montgomery County.
A representative for BDC Spectrum II LLC, an affiliate of Bethesda’s Finmarc Management Inc., said a grocer is still on the books for the project but declined to confirm or deny whether that will be an Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market or other Amazon-branded market.
