Adventist HealthCare is taking steps to bring a new community hospital to southern Prince George’s County.
The Gaithersburg health system is under contract to purchase the property at 7707 Kaydot Road, Adventist announced June 8 at a Washington Business Journal event at National Harbor. There, it proposes to build the Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center, the system confirmed in a statement Tuesday, presumably a replacement for its existing Fort Washington Medical Center at 11711 Livingston Road.
It marks both a significant move toward expanding critical access to health care in an underserved part of the region, and the end of a dormant period for the roughly 25-acre site off of Indian Head Highway. The property — owned by Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment Inc., which years ago lost a bid to host a casino on that land as the state chose MGM National Harbor instead — most recently was listed for sale in 2020.
