In the decade it’s taken to get Bridge District off the ground near the Anacostia Metro station, the massive mixed-use project has had to evolve with the community’s needs, including an increasingly urgent one of late: workforce development.
Developer Redbrick LMD is mapping out what it calls a “national center for cyber learning” in the commercial and office component slated for the later phases of the 2.6 million-square-foot project along the 600 and 700 blocks of Howard Road SE. This will follow multiple residential and retail buildings, which when done could house 2,000 residential units and up to 3,500 residents.
But beyond Bridge District’s borders, Redbrick Principal Tom Skinner ticks off a half-dozen major cyber-related agencies within a proverbial stone’s throw, not the least of which is the consolidated Department of Homeland Security headquarters, including its Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency coming soon to the St. Elizabeths campus.
