Once it opens, the 21-stop Purple Line will stretch from the Bethesda Metro station through Silver Spring and College Park and conclude in New Carrollton.
However, businesses along the route are growing more and more impatient. Help is on the way in the form of money. Transportation officials are now cutting checks to those who have been most affected.
Dozens of small businesses in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties like on Bonifant Street in downtown Silver Spring have endured years and years of headaches and hardship due to the never-ending construction. Up to $50,000 is headed to small businesses to address the financial impacts.
The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Purple Line Partners are now offering this new series of grants. The four-year, $4 million program is for small businesses that are located within a quarter mile of the rail line.
