The Washington Commanders’ co-owners met with both of Maryland’s U.S. Senators on Tuesday to discuss a proposal to transfer control of RFK stadium to local D.C. leaders.
Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) tells 7News they discussed several issues related to the proposal and it’s still not settled if he will support the bill that’s already passed the House.
Only eleven days remain until the Senate is scheduled to adjourn. Last month, a Senate committee passed legislation giving D.C. control of the Robert F. Kennedy Stadium site, bringing plans to move the Washington Commanders back to the District a step closer to reality.
The Committee on Energy and Natural Resources advanced the bill to the Senate floor, setting a Dec. 28 deadline to vote on moving long-term control of the Northeast D.C. site to District leaders.
