Ted Leonsis said Tuesday he remains interested in buying the Washington Nationals from the Lerner family.
Leonsis, who leads Monumental Sports & Entertainment, previously made a more than $2 billion bid to buy the Major League Baseball franchise in 2022, when the Lerner family was exploring a sale. Leonsis was joined in that effort by David Rubenstein, the billionaire co-founder of D.C.’s The Carlyle Group Inc.
The Lerners said in February the Nats are no longer for sale, and Rubenstein has since gone on to buy the Baltimore Orioles.
When asked Tuesday morning if he would make another bid on the Nats, Leonsis said on “The Sports Junkies” on 106.7-FM the Fan he would “make a credible and strong offer.”
