NVR is turning runways into driveways.
The Reston homebuilder (NYSE: NVR) won unanimous approval Thursday from the Prince George’s Planning Board to build 1,288 single-family attached homes on the site of Hyde Field, a shuttered private airport in Clinton. The project, called Hyde Landing, now heads to the full county board.
The owners of the airport, also known as Washington Executive Airport, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020; the airport closed in November 2022. It was one of several private airports that faced more stringent regulations in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
NVR bought the 425-acre airfield for $7.5 million cash in December 2022 in a bankruptcy court auction.
The company filed requests for the zoning map amendments in 2023. The site, part of which was once a sand and gravel mine, sits near Piscataway Road (Maryland Route 224) and Steed Road, about six miles from Joint Base Andrews.
