NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said late last week that “progress is being made” on finalizing the sale of the Washington Commanders and that he expects some sort of official announcement in the next several weeks.
“That progress will hopefully lead to them being comfortable to announce some type of a transaction probably by the middle of May or late May,” Goodell said late Thursday night on ESPN’s broadcast of the NFL draft.
It’s been more than two weeks since owners Dan and Tanya Snyder reached an agreement in principle to sell the team for a record $6 billion to a group led by Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner Josh Harris.
That group is also said to include Mitchell Rales, one of the billionaire co-founders of D.C. conglomerate Danaher Corp. (NYSE: DHR) and the owner of Glenstone contemporary art museum in Potomac, as well as Hall-of-Fame basketball player Magic Johnson and Mark Ein, a D.C.-based serial entrepreneur who also owns the Washington City Paper and is the owner the Washington Kastles of World TeamTennis and chairman of the Citi Open. There could be as many as nine other limited partners in the deal, according to Front Office Sports.
