Bowie State University has chosen a developer to shape a major mixed-use project meant to connect the campus with the surrounding community — and provide much-needed student housing.
Currently, the site is just 1.6 acres of woods owned by the university at the intersection of Laurel Bowie and Jericho Park roads, adjacent to the MARC commuter lot. But by the fall of 2026, it’s expected to be a new residential and retail development called the Gateway, to include student housing and retail accessible to students as well as Bowie State’s neighbors.
Mosaic Development Partners JV, a Philadelphia-based developer with an office in New Carrollton, has been awarded the rights, the company announced on its website.
“This is at the beginning stage,” Mike Atkins, Bowie State’s interim vice president of administration and finance, said in an interview. “When we talk about the Gateway, we want to bring the community into the university.”
