The Regal Cinema in Bowie will shut down next month as part of the next wave of movie theaters slated to close.
Doors will officially close Feb. 15 at 39 Regal theaters across the country, which is in addition to the dozen that have already shut down after parent company Cineworld announced it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September.
Cineworld released its plan to reject several leases in a new bankruptcy filing on Tuesday, according to Business Insider. The move would help it save $22 million a year. Regal is the second-largest cinema chain in the country after AMC, with more than 500 theaters.
“The debtors are hopeful that these negotiations will lead to lease concessions and modifications that will obviate the need for rejection and enable additional theater sites to remain open,” Cineworld said in the filing.
