Howard University could get another substantial infusion of federal funding to build a new hospital.
The D.C. institution’s future academic medical center, which will replace the nearly 50-year-old facility on its campus, could receive another $150 million from the fiscal year 2023 budget — on top of $100 million allocated for the project earlier this year.
Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., said this week she secured the capital in the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies bill. The House of Representatives’ appropriations committee marks up the bill Friday. It still has more hurdles to clear, including a vote by the full House and reconciliation with the Senate, before it would reach President Joe Biden’s desk.
