The Lerner family is looking into potential changes to the ownership of the Washington Nationals — and perhaps a sale of the team.
According to The Washington Post, the Lerners have hired New York investment bank Allen & Co. to search for potential new investors for their Major League Baseball franchise. The Lerners are also evaluating the potential for a sale, according to the report.
“This is an exploratory process, so there is no set timetable or expectation of a specific outcome,” Nationals Managing Principal Owner Mark Lerner said in a statement to the Post. “The organization is as committed as ever to their employees, players, fans, sponsors and partners and to putting a competitive product on the field.”
A representative for Lerner Enterprises, the family’s real estate company, said Mark Lerner was unavailable for additional comment.
