In response to a growing number of Prince George’s County residents who express frustration with the quality and availability of youth sports and arts programs, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and Prince George’s House Delegation Chairman Nick Charles have introduced legislation that seeks to reform the county’s recreation department.
The bill was heard on February 11 th and passed out of the delegation by a vote of 18-0. Dubbed “The Prince George’s Plan,” by its supporters, PG-406-22 creates a 10-Member task force to study the current situation and make recommendations to the County Council and the General Assembly about any necessary changes in law to better serve the county residents.
Over a dozen youth sports, parents, and other organizations testified in support of PG-406 earlier in the week including 2X NBA Champion Quinn Cook who grew up in Prince George’s County and is still very active in the community. “We have to give our children many more opportunities and more positive activities”, Cook testified, “and not just sports they need arts and music too.”
