Amazon.com Inc. is said to be in talks to purchase MGM Inc., one of the world’s oldest film studios.
According to The New York Times, the two companies are engaged in talks about a deal, which would move a lot of big-ticket intellection property, including the James Bond and Rocky Balboa film franchises, into Amazon’s stable.
MGM has been seeking a buyer for several months, according to the report, with both Apple Inc. and Comcast Corp. recently passing on an asking price of $9 billion. Those two suitors pegged the studio’s value at closer to $6 billion, according to the report. MGM Chairman Michael De Luca is said to have given Amazon execs a presentation of the studio’s upcoming production slate on Friday.
