Turner Construction Co. and MCN Build LLC have been awarded the construction management contract for the new hospital coming to Southeast D.C.
The two builders were announced Friday as the winning team to build the $375 million, full-service hospital complex. Slated for the St. Elizabeths East campus, the community hospital will be run by George Washington University Hospital majority owner Universal Health Services Inc. (NYSE: UHS), based in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. It could employ an estimated 550 people to run the facility and, ultimately, will replace United Medical Center.
New York City’s Turner, whose local office is in Reston, and D.C.-based MCN will invest at least 35% of the “multimillion-dollar construction contract” with certified District-based businesses. The design and construction of the new hospital — slated to start in the spring or summer of 2022 — is expected to support roughly 2,000 jobs.
