The Purple Line was not conceived as a $5.6 billion, 11.6-mile light-rail line linking Bethesda and New Carrollton. The initial idea looked nothing like what is scheduled to debut in 2023 as a crucial public transit connection between Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.
