For as long as the debate over sports betting in Maryland has been around, another debate — who should be able to host those bets — has followed behind.
The state’s voters settled the argument over whether Maryland should be open to sports wagers with a referendum authorizing them last year. And now a new bill before the House of Delegates attempts to offer an answer for the second question.
The proposal: allow both casinos and race tracks — which have previously battled for control over sportsbooks — to each have a piece of the action.
House Bill 940, filed early this month in House of Delegates, also offers Maryland lawmakers a framework for how the nascent industry might function.
