Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. is stepping up in a big way to help small businesses impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The utility company announced Thursday it has pledged $15 million in grants to small businesses located in its service area. Businesses can begin applying for the grants of up to $20,000 each starting Jan. 20.
BGE’s service area includes Baltimore City and the surrounding counties, as well as parts of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.
The grant program marks a crucial investment as small businesses continue to struggle amid a recession caused by the pandemic. Paycheck Protection Program funding dried up long ago, and the country continues to wait and see if Congress will pass much-needed stimulus legislation.
