Prince George’s Community College is nearing its selection of an architectural firm to design a $62.5 million expansion of its student center, which is set to almost double in size.
The revamped student center is not necessarily the most expensive or even the biggest expansion that PGCC has embarked upon in its broader overhaul of its main, 150-acre campus in Largo. But it would be one of its most visible projects, acting as a “gateway” to the college for those driving along Route 202, the school wrote in its request for proposal documents.
“The primary purpose of this capital project is to transform Largo Student Center into a campus hub with flexible and inspiring learning and social spaces that encourage and foster engagement and experiential learning to enrich the student experience and support success,” the school said.
Its plan is to renovate the nearly 70,000-square-foot building, while adding almost 65,000 new square feet. The school expects to pick an architect in early November, and construction is expected to begin in 2022.
