With an ethics review in the rearview mirror, former D.C. City Administrator Rashad Young has formally accepted a job at Howard University.
The university announced Tuesday that it would appoint Young as senior vice president and chief strategy officer effective Oct. 12. Young will manage the implementation of the school’s strategic plan for the historically Black university through 2024. In addition, he’ll “provide oversight on external affairs as it relates to the federal government and on real estate as it pertains to our noncore assets,” school officials wrote.
“Although it is bittersweet to leave my post as city administrator with the District, I am truly excited to be joining the team at Howard University, particularly during this moment in our society when the future of our youth is so clearly important to the future of this nation,” Young said in a statement. “President [Wayne] Frederick has established a high bar of success for the future of the institution, and I look forward to joining the team that will bring that vision to fruition.”
The city’s Board of Ethics and Government Accountability investigated whether Young used his position as D.C.’s lead negotiator on a deal to provide public financing for a new Howard hospital to secure more lucrative employment at the university. The board ultimately found that he committed an inadvertent technical violation of city ethics laws and fined him $2,500, but otherwise cleared him of wrongdoing.
