MGM National Harbor’s Losses Narrow During Second Full Month Operating Under Covid-19 RestrictionsMaryland casinos saw their losses narrow during the second full month of coronavirus-related restrictions in August, recording an overall year-over-year decrease of just 3.1%.
MGM National Harbor pulled in the biggest haul of any casino in the state but still saw a 4.3% drop. The Prince George’s County casino, which laid off hundreds of workers this week, brought in $59.7 million in August.
The state’s six casinos have been operating at 50% capacity since mid-June, after they shut down completely starting in mid-March as the virus spread throughout Maryland. Despite these restrictions, the casinos raked in $154.26 million in August, a drop of only $4.7 million year-over-year and the eighth-best revenue month in state casino history, according to the latest financial report released Friday by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. In comparison, casinos saw a 6.1% year-over-year decrease in July, the first full month casinos were allowed to reopen.
