Southwest Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino reported the only year-over-year revenue decrease among Maryland’s casinos last month, according to data released Monday by Maryland Lottery and Gaming.
Altogether, the state’s six casinos pulled in nearly $143.5 million in April, with five posting year-over-year gains. The combined revenue grew by 5.7 percent compared with April 2017.
Horseshoe, meanwhile, saw an 11.5 percent year-over-year decrease, with $21.7 million in earnings. The casino is hoping to see a turnaround with upcoming plans to develop an entertainment district along Warner Street.
Maryland’s newest casino, MGM National Harbor, posted the strongest numbers in April, with $57.7 million revenue — a 15.6 percent increase. The $1.4 billion complex opened on the Potomac River in December 2016 and has pulled in the highest revenue among the state’s casinos every month since March 2017.
MGM’s closest competitor, Live Casino in Hanover, earned $46.8 million last month, a 3.3 percent increase. Live developer The Cordish Cos. opened a new patio for outdoor gambling last week and will debut a 310-room luxury hotel and conference center next to the casino on May 22, a move Cordish CEO David Cordish has predicted will be a “game changer” for the destination.
