Maryland’s technology industry added about 1,335 new jobs in 2016, and tech workers made an average salary of $107,200, according to a new report from an industry organization.
The study from CompTIA shows the new jobs brings the state’s tech workforce to more than 182,500. That ranks Maryland at No. 16 in the U.S.
Unsurprisingly, California leads the nation in tech employment, with about 1.18 million workers, followed by Texas with 593,000. New York, Florida and Massachusetts rounded out the top five. There are over 6.89 million tech industry jobs across the nation.
The CompTIA report found that the industry accounts for about 8.8 percent, or $32 billion, of the Maryland economy. Nationally, those figures are 7.5 percent, or $1.3 trillion. Maryland houses an estimated 14,571 tech businesses, with employers posting over 19,000 job openings for tech occupations in the last quarter of 2016.
