Radio One Inc. (NASDAQ: ROIA) won’t be leaving Montgomery County after all.
The Silver Spring-based urban radio network has renewed its lease with Brandywine Realty Trust at 1010 Wayne Ave. and 8484 Georgia Ave. after exploring a range of alternate locations in the District and Bethesda, as well as Silver Spring, according to sources familiar with the deal.
The company’s decision to stay is positive economic development news for Montgomery County in its ongoing competition with the District for large and high-profile employees. Radio One was a potential flight risk, but it’s unclear how likely it was to uproot from its current headquarters. It had signed the Silver Spring leases in 2011, shifting its headquarters from Lanham in Prince George’s County at the time.
