Sen. Douglas J.J. Peters (D-Prince George’s) on Friday was named majority leader of the Maryland Senate, one of several key leadership positions announced by Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Calvert).
Peters replaces former senator Catherine E. Pugh (D-Baltimore), who resigned from the Senate last month after winning Baltimore’s mayoral election.
Her departure, and the resignation from the state Senate of newly elected Rep. Jamie B. Raskin (D) caused several committee and caucus leadership changes. Sen. Bill Ferguson (D-Baltimore) will succeed Raskin as chairman of the Executive Nominations Committee, Miller said.
