It has been over a year since the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport began taking bids for an on-site hotel to offer easy access to the airport terminals in the near future.
But no construction is going to begin anytime soon as the bid process has been put on hold despite original plans of awarding the project by December of last year. That is because there wasn’t much interest in the project as proposed, BWI CFO Jim Walsh said.
“We put it out for bid and didn’t receive any, so we did some survey work around the industry to ask why,” Walsh said. “We heard back that the market was soft and it was not a good time for hotel development. There has not been a lot of new construction on the hotel side here in a number of years and there are dozens of hotels around the airport already.”
