Rep. Donna F. Edwards continues to struggle to find money as her campaign for Maryland’s Democratic senatorial nomination enters the final 11 weeks with her trailing opponent Rep. Chris Van Hollen by more than 10 to 1 in available cash.
Her latest Federal Election Commission filing, on Friday, showed Edwards with just under $300,000 in the bank at the end of 2015, less than one-tenth of the $3.6 million reported by Van Hollen.
Edwards, seeking to become the first African American female U.S. senator from Maryland by filling the seat of retiring Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D), raised a little less than $600,000 in the fourth quarter, about half of the $1.1 million that Van Hollen collected in the same period.
Both candidates spent more than they raised in the fourth quarter, with Edwards expending $657,000 to Van Hollen’s $1.5 million.
