A slew of property owners recently submitted concepts to Fairfax County for major projects — largely clustered between Falls Church, Merrifield and Tysons — that call for millions of square feet of new construction, the infusion of new uses into staid office complexes and the redevelopment of antiquated garden-style apartment complexes.
Bernard Suchicital, senior land use planner for Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning, told me the owners are starting the process of amending the county’s comprehensive plan through the north county site-specific plan amendment process to advance the massive developments.
He said the county is now processing the nominations, which will undergo a community review beginning in March.
“It’s a high-level review of the concept and deciding whether this is a good idea for the county to put a lot of time, effort and resources into, not only for staff but also for community members to do a more thorough land impact analysis,” Suchicital said.
