It’s a transportation system backers say would shorten the trip from DC to New York to a half hour, and on Thursday Virgin Hyperloop announced it is building a facility in West Virginia to help make it a reality.
The hyperloop certification center and a six mile track for testing and demonstrations will be built in an area spanning two counties – Tucker and Grant – just south of western Maryland, Virgin Hyperloop and the West Virginia governor announced.
Officials with Virgin Hyperloop, which is backed by well-known British billionaire Richard Branson, say they have already tested the technology in Nevada.
“The technology actually exists, and can work,” said Ryan Kelly with Virgin Hyperloop at a virtual press conference.
