Foreclosures in the U.S. were down more than 20 percent in 2015, with Maryland leading the way with a 59 percent decline in foreclosures for the year.
The District and four states — New Jersey, New York, Hawaii and Florida — had the highest foreclosure inventory. D.C.’s was 2.3 percent of mortgaged homes, tied with Florida. Meanwhile, Maryland’s foreclosure inventory was 1.5 percent. Virginia’s was 0.5 percent.
D.C. also had the lowest number of completed foreclosures in 2015: 81.
Maryland’s inventory of homes in foreclosure in 2015 was down 28.2 percent from 2014. Virginia was down 20.9 percent. The District was down 6.5 percent.
