The employment market might be getting more competitive, but many workers are still opting to quit jobs that are high-stress, low-pay and limit their career growth.

Payscale Inc. for its 2024 End-of-Year Report dug into the jobs workers said they were most likely to quit within the next six months and found a high concentration of health-care jobs and jobs involving child care and education. The report noted that these kinds of jobs saw already-stressful conditions worsened by the pandemic.

The jobs people were most likely to want to quit, according to Payscale, were:

  • Registered nurse, critical care (median pay: $84,400)
  • Retail sales associate ($31,400)
  • Heavy truck driver ($59,400)
  • Computer help-desk representative ($49,300)
  • Patient care technician ($38,000)
  • Elementary school teacher ($55,000)
  • Licensed practical nurse ($55,800)
  • Nurse assistant ($37,600)
  • Home health aide ($33,400)
  • Pharmacy technician ($42,600)
