A deal for a new stadium at the RFK site in Washington, D.C. has been reached, according to 7News’ sources.
Just last week, negotiations were ongoing between the Washington Commanders ownership group and Bowser on a new NFL stadium where the old RFK Stadium sits, and, at the time, no deal had been struck yet, sources confirmed to 7News. On Sunday, however, sources said that a deal has been achieved.
The deal would still need support from the city council to move forward.
7News reached out to Chairman Phil Mendelson’s office after learning about the deal. They provided the following statement:
“The cost to the District will be at least $856M, and I continue to be concerned with investing any public money into a stadium while we have constrained budgets and revenues, and unmet needs,” Mendelson said in a statement through his spokesperson.
