Plans to convert barren land on the Middle Branch into a sweeping mixed-use community moved one step closer to reality Thursday.
A city design panel debated schematics for the first residential complex to be developed as part of the One Westport project in South Baltimore — and told the team behind the $400 million development they were closing in on a successful vision.
“It’s the right amount of thinking at this juncture,” said Pavlina Ilieva, chair of the Urban Design and Architecture Advisory Panel, or UDAAP, after an hour-long meeting on updated plans for the first phase.
Soto Architecture and Urban Design and engineer Kimley Horn presented four possible layouts for the development of two residential towers at Westport. The projects will total 140 units, with 90 apartments for seniors and 50 units of market-rate and affordable apartments.
