As a legal battle over the transfer of $39 million from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission continues, the Prince George’s County Council has approved a resolution that portrays their move as aligning with longstanding county practices.
The council voted Tuesday to approve a resolution that would reframe the proposed direct transfer of funds as a reimbursement-based process. The move comes after a judge temporarily blocked the original transfer plan and as the case is scheduled to return to court next week.
Council Chair Krystal Oriadha, who sponsored the resolution, has said the measure does not create a new funding mechanism but instead formalizes an existing process.
“The resolution states that the transfer is carried out through the invoices and reimbursement process, which Park and Planning has always used as the longstanding process,” Oriadha said during a previous public discussion.
