County Executive Aisha Braveboy announced on Wednesday that Deputy Chief George Nader will become the new Prince George’s County Police Chief, replacing the current chief, Malik Aziz.
Nader oversaw the Metro Transit Police Department’s Bureau of Homeland Security and has over 25 years of law enforcement experience. He also served 20 years with the Prince George’s County Police Department.
The newly-appointed chief told news outlets he was ready to take on the position, acknowledging he had to get reacclimated to the region. He also announced that longtime PGPD veteran George Nichols would be his assistant chief.
“[C]oming back after nine years is going to take some time to assess and look and see where we’re at. I think we’re going to have a community-first mentality, community forward,” Nader said. “I think the men and women of Prince George’s County are the most talented in the land, and I truly appreciate that. So the first thing I need to do is understand where the department is and and then we can assess to see where we need to take it.
