Virginia’s House Appropriations Committee moved forward a bill that would allow a casino to be built in Fairfax County.
The bill, SB756, was introduced by Sen. Scott Surovell and passed by the Senate earlier this month. The bill adds Fairfax County to the list of Virginia localities eligible to host a casino.
It also requires any proposed site in that county to be part of a coordinated mixed-use project development of at least 1.5 million square feet.
“You can only cut costs so much,” Del. Wren Williams (R – VA 47th District), a patron of the bill, told 7News. “Costs are going up, expenses exist. We can be as efficient as we can possibly be, but 3% inflation is 3% inflation. We have to look for other revenue sources and I don’t necessarily enjoy raising taxes on my citizens or my constituents.”
