A former flooring warehouse in Laurel is poised for a dramatic reinvention, as nearly 38,000 square feet of industrial space prepares to become a cutting-edge production studio.
Revolutionary VP Studios is moving through the permitting process to convert roughly 30,000 square feet of warehouse space and an additional 8,000 square feet of office space at 13380 Mid Atlantic Blvd. — previously home to a FloorMax distribution facility — into a state-of-the-art, rentable production complex.
The new facility is designed to accommodate a wide range of creative uses, from filming movies and television commercials to editing projects and hosting immersive virtual productions.
Co-founders Daniel Strauch and Zach Guerra say the studio will distinguish itself with high-end technology rarely found outside major entertainment hubs. The centerpiece will be a curved, volumetric LED wall — a next-generation alternative to the traditional green screen — with a projected price tag of $9 million.
The immersive display system uses real-time rendering technology to create dynamic digital environments that move naturally with camera angles and lighting, allowing filmmakers to capture scenes in-camera rather than adding backgrounds in post-production.
“If we wanted to bring a quarter hull of a ship in and build a low lake and act like we are sailing across the ocean — and even give a client at an event that experience — we could do so,” Strauch told Washington Business Journal.
In addition to film and commercial work, the studio is expected to support corporate productions, live-streamed events and interactive experiences that blend physical sets with digital backdrops. By repurposing the former warehouse, Revolutionary VP Studios aims to position Laurel as a regional hub for high-end virtual production, bringing big-budget capabilities closer to the D.C.-Baltimore market.
