The long-anticipated development of a 700-room Great Wolf Lodge resort in Perryville got underway on Tuesday with confetti, a dancing wolf mascot in green sneakers and hard hats sporting fluffy ears.

The project is expected to generate $100 million in annual sales revenue for the Cecil County town once it opens in 2023. Its location off Interstate 95 near the Susquehanna River means it will attract visitors from across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond, Chicago-based Great Wolf officials said.

“This is our 20th resort and it will also be the biggest one we’ve ever done,” said Steven Jacobsen, vice president for domestic development. “This is a milestone date for us.”
