Governor Moore Places Blame On Hogan For Current Budget Challenges

As the state struggles to balance its budget, in a new interview Governor Wes Moore is once again challenging claims his predecessor, former Governor Larry Hogan, left him with a staggering $5 billion dollar surplus.

“That’s been debunked over and over,” Moore told FOX’s ‘Special Report’ anchor Bret Baier, “We actually turned a structural deficit, which has been predicted since 2017 and was not addressed by the previous government, and turned a structural deficit now into a surplus.”

Moore argues the money he inherited was mostly one-time federal COVID funding, not a stable surplus.

“And so, to call that a structural surplus either shows that you are intentionally being factually incorrect, or you just don’t understand math,” he said.

We’ve debunked this myth time and time again. The Hogan Administration left us with a long-predicted structural deficit that we turned into a surplus — all while cutting or not changing income taxes for 94% of Marylanders. pic.twitter.com/IXuDYpXEtL
