Lawmakers are considering several new tax proposals as the District looks for additional revenue to help pay for city programs and services.
Among the ideas being discussed are a new tax on certain high-end homes that are not someone’s primary residence, a higher tax on investment income for some high-income residents and an increase in the sales tax.
The proposals come as the District’s economy faces continued pressure.
D.C.’s unemployment rate was 5.7% in August, according to the Department of Employment Services.
The District is also dealing with ongoing budget pressures involving education, health care and other city services.
