Amazon.com Inc. recently bought a 3-acre parking lot in Laurel for $1.39 million.
According to Maryland property data, Capital One Bank sold the lot at 6150 Chevy Chase Drive to Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) on May 12. A building permit to redevelop the site into a “tenant parking lot” for industrial use was approved June 1, Prince George’s County records show. Another permit application was filed Thursday to construct an open pavilion on the property.
It’s unclear why Amazon bought the lot, as it does not appear to operate a logistics facility in that general area, and spokespeople for both the company and Capital One Bank did not respond to requests for comment.
The property has an assessed value of $1.3 million, according to public records.
